Newsletter Committee

The Poudre Canyon Cache has been a quarterly newsletter that we used to communicate with our group's general membership (over 1,600 in 2009). The Cache was also available on our website. We are transitioning to an electronic version. If you already have an editing and/or writing background, or are looking for a chance to develop these skills, here's your chance. We're also looking for volunteers to work with local businesses who wish to advertise in the Cache.

Website Committee

Our website is a key communication tool for our members and the general public, and so it is important that we keep the content interesting and up-to-date. Work with other PCG volunteers to coordinate new content, updates and improvements.

MOUNTAINFILM Organizers

The Poudre Canyon Group has hosted the Fort Collins stop of the MOUNTAINFILM in Telluride World Tour. This event is fast becoming a tradition among afficionados of world-class films that highlight mountain culture and outdoor adventure. Volunteers are needed to help with event organization and promotion for the next tourstop.

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteers are essential to the Sierra Club, and our goal is to provide any member who wants to help out the opportunity to do so. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with committee chairs to match volunteers to volunteer opportunities as they arise. This includes managing a database of volunteers' interests and contact information, and following-up with volunteers who contact us looking for opportunities to get active. This is a great way to learn about the issues we're working on and to meet other active Sierra Club members.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee serves as the "welcome wagon" for new members who have just joined the Club, making sure that they receive information about our local group, and that they know who to contact for more information.

Booths and Events

Throughout the year, the PCG often has booths or other displays at local events to help get the word out about our campaigns and other issues that we're involved in. Helping staff a booth is an easy way to get involved, and a great way to meet people who might be interested in what the Sierra Club is doing. Time committment is minimal, and training, if necessary, is provided.

Phonebank Volunteers

We often need to contact our members to get the word out on upcoming events, programs, or issues that need their attention. This is a low-overhead, but very important, way to help the PCG stay connected with our members.

Conservation Committee / Activists

Our group's conservation program depends entirely on volunteers. Opportunities abound to help protect our Poudre River and other water resources, nearby wilderness areas, forests, parks, air quality, grasslands, wildlife and their habitat, and to promote an alternative vision of local and global sustainability.

Political Committee / Activists

Environmentally important municipal, county, state and / or federal elections occur every year in northern Colorado. The political arm of the Club's conservation program focuses on electing pro-environmental candidates, raising awareness of environmental issues in elections, getting environmentalists to participate politically, and building relationships with elected leaders.

Fundraising Committee

Many of our conservation efforts require money, whether to purchase supplies, print flyers, hire lawyers, or get the word out. We hold fundraisers such as an annual garage sale, sell Sierra Club calendars and books, sell ads in our newsletter and solicit donations at various events. The national Club provides resources to help with local fundraisers so you don't have to start from scratch. Got ideas or energy?
